Celtic Male Ensemble have just come back from The Cornwall International Male Choral Festival at Truro Cathedral over the weekend and won 5 Awards out of the possible 7.

 

• Festival Champion Choir

• First Prize in Category 1

• Best Sung Single Piece of Music for Queen’s ‘Who Wants To Live Forever’

• Best Cornish Choir in Category 1

• Besh Cornish Choir in Festival

 

It was a tough competition with 4 excellent choirs competing, Peterborough Male Voice Choir, Risca Male Choir and our dear friends Mousehole Male Voice Choir. All the choirs in the class were exceptional, and we knew we had our work cut out for us. However, we are very thankful to the Cornwall International Male Choral Festival Judges and team for their marks.

This summer Celtic Male Ensemble were honoured to be part of the Cornish contingent along with the Cornish dance group, Kekezza and the Senyans Kernow Orchestra. All Celtic nations joined together in the city of Lorient in Britanny. Lorient roughly the size of Plymouth played host to the Celtic nations of Cornwall, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Isle of Man, Brittany (France) and Galicia (Northwestern Spain), this year was the year of Cornwall. Celtic Male Ensemble spent a glorious week singing on purpose-built stages  

 throughout the city, on ships, in market squares and Yacht clubs during the day and then each evening performing in Lorient Football stadium (Stade Du Moustoir) alongside the other Celtic Nations performing in front of audiences of 12,000 a night.

The Celtic Male Ensemble, along with two other local choirs, where honoured to join with The Choir of Man in singing Chandelier (original artist Sia) from the show.

The Choir of Man is a new show that is currently touring the UK as well as being in London’s West End. It was first presented at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2017.

The all-inclusive show is designed to celebrate the traditional pub culture and allows audience members to go up on stage before the show and during the interval to sit at their bar and have a drink. Cast members would come out and interact with the audience.
